Kitchen Hack: A Little Zest Goes a Long Way
So many people I know spend extra bucks on flavored alcohols, mainly vodkas. It seems there is a new flavor every week… Mandarin, watermelon, vanilla, espresso… It never ends. Many of the flavors are easy to recreate at home and sometimes will cost you less. Guaranteed they will taste better, because it is homemade using fresh ingredients. Here is an easy hack to get you started:
Hack #20: A little zest goes a long way
Hold onto the peels from the citrus fruits you squeeze to make ceviche or lemonade. Carefully remove the pith (white membrane) and incorporate the peels into any bottle of alcohol you have on hand. You can use vodka, rum or whiskey… Wait at least a week and you will notice a citrus-y flavor in the liquor. The longer you wait, the more pronounced the flavor will be.
Zest you can!
Infuse your alcohol with citrus zest, dry spices or even candy!
